// PLATFORM: ELASTIC OBSERVABILITY
Elastic Observability instead of ELK sprawl
Whether greenfield or a logging cluster that just grew: we introduce the Elastic Stack in a structured way and extend it into a fully-fledged observability platform – APM, logs and metrics, with OpenTelemetry as a first-class ingest path (OTLP/EDOT) and storage costs that stay predictable.
- Cluster architecture and sizing that genuinely carry your data volumes
- Storage tiering (hot/warm/cold/frozen): older data moves to inexpensive object storage. Hot/warm/cold already runs on Basic via regular data nodes. The real savings lever is unlocked by an Enterprise subscription: cold and frozen tiers via searchable snapshots that cache only a fraction of the data locally
- Consolidation of scattered ELK islands into one platform with governance
- Success guarantee: acceptance criteria such as query latencies or data parity are stated in the proposal – we tie our fee to them
First step: a short, free intro call – directly with a senior consultant, no sales chain. No strings attached – you decide afterwards.
Your cluster should carry you, not keep you busy. With clean sharding, well-maintained mappings and a well-thought-out index lifecycle, Elastic stays fast and predictable even as data volumes grow – we bring existing clusters to that point and build new ones that way from the start. And if a different stack fits you better, we will tell you.
// SERVICES
What we do for you with Elastic
Cluster architecture & sizing
Node roles, sharding strategy, capacity planning: we size your cluster for real load instead of hope – including load tests before go-live.
ILM & storage tiering
Index lifecycle management across hot, warm, cold and frozen tiers: older data moves to inexpensive storage but remains searchable. The biggest cost lever comes from searchable snapshots in the cold and frozen tiers from Enterprise onwards. We calculate at which data volume that pays for itself.
APM & OpenTelemetry
Elastic APM with OpenTelemetry ingestion via OTLP and EDOT where that is production-ready per language. Otherwise the classic, language-specific Elastic APM agents. We justify the choice per service. The result: distributed traces, service maps and correlation to logs and metrics, instrumented by standard instead of vendor logic.
ELK consolidation
Three teams, five clusters, zero overview? We merge scattered ELK installations into one platform – with a tenancy concept, access control and consistent index conventions.
Query & ingest performance
Slow dashboards, stalling ingest pipelines: we find the causes – mappings, shard sizes, pipeline design – and fix them measurably.
Upgrade support & operations
Major upgrades without weekend drama: tested upgrade paths, a rollback plan, and on request ongoing operations as a managed service.
// OUR PROCESS
Introduce, extend, optimise Elastic
Introduction
Cluster architecture, agent rollout via Fleet, first Kibana dashboards: we build your Elastic Stack with index conventions and ILM policies that plan for growth from the start.
Extension
From logging to observability: Elastic APM with OTel connectivity, metrics via the Elastic Agent, alerting in Kibana – step by step towards a fully-fledged platform.
Optimisation
Making existing clusters measurably better: overhauling sharding, mappings and query performance, then bringing storage costs back on plan with ILM tiering. With an Enterprise subscription in place, the frozen tier via searchable snapshots unlocks further savings.
// MIGRATION
Paths to Elastic – and when a different stack wins
We migrate to Elastic from
- Splunk – when ingest costs blow the budget
- Home-grown logging solutions that just grew, with no maintenance perspective
- Scattered individual ELK installations – consolidated instead of duplicated
What the result looks like
- Old and new run in parallel until data and dashboard parity is proven
- OTel instrumentation that makes any later backend switch considerably smaller and plannable
- A scheduled decommissioning plan for the old systems
// FAQ
Frequently asked questions about Elastic
The proposal contains measurable acceptance criteria – for Elastic, for instance, defined query response times after an overhaul, or demonstrable data parity after a consolidation. Whether they are met is verified by you at sign-off, not by us.
If we miss the target, our fee is reduced significantly – that is how we share your project risk, on terms set out transparently in the contract.
Both are a good choice – the decision depends on your cloud strategy, your compliance requirements and your feature needs; we advise without belonging to either camp.
- Elasticsearch: leading in features and pace of innovation; since 2024, AGPLv3 is available as an OSI-compliant licence alongside SSPL and the Elastic License – relevant if your compliance demands a genuine open-source option
- OpenSearch: Apache 2.0 licence, vendor-neutral under the Linux Foundation since 2024, deep AWS integration
Usually it scales – after overhauling sharding, mappings and ILM. A rebuild is needed less often than vendors claim. In the workshop you get the diagnosis with an effort estimate for both paths and our recommendation.
For many observability use cases, the free feature set goes surprisingly far. It typically becomes chargeable with advanced security, machine learning, searchable snapshots and support.
We map your requirements to the licence tiers with openly stated criteria – and make money on none of them.
On request, we do: cluster health, ILM maintenance and upgrade management as a managed service – with response times that are in the contract, not left to discretion.
